employment is empowerment
New residents who are not fully employed meet with a Community Coordinator at least once a week to develop and implement a job search plan. Coaching, resume development, mock interviews, skill assessments, and transportation are all components of a new resident’s job search strategy.
Stepping Stones provides mentorship on how to be an effective employee by fostering punctuality, work ethic, being trustworthy and responsibility We understand that not everyone coming into our housing is financially healthy, and needs support in gaining employment. Our employment rate is nearly 100%, and it takes an average of 2 days to find placement. Residents may work at an employer of their choosing and we encourage continuing education and professional skill development. However, we emphasize this is secondary to our primary mission of recovery from substance abuse.
Stepping Stones maintains relationships with local employers and temporary agencies who appreciate the responsible demeanor of our residents. We have nearly a 100% placement rate for our residents largely due to the reputation and success of our former clients. We are committed to finding employment with dignity for all our residents, and our experience shows this is a critical factor in our clients’ success. . There is a strong correlation between unemployment and substance abuse/relapse rate. (Henkel, D. (2011). Unemployment and Substance Use: A Review of the Literature. Current Drug Abuse Review 4(1)4-27)
